An outfit that thinks less of a person due to their college antics is a pretty messed up place.

The bigger deal might be an issue with personal embarrasment years down the road. Yet, few people are truely embarrassed by their college craziness. If anything, it might bring back fond memories. I guess the only bad part is that if your kids saw what you did 30 years ago in college, they might be inclined to go even further.

Re: The Virtual Identity of College Students

On the other hand, even if an employer did dig up these pictures, would they really hold it against them? It's college, after all. The vast majority of us got a little crazy at least once or twice. I also know that some of the smartest, most capable people I knew in college were some of the ones who went the craziest.

Clinton admitted he smoked pot (once, supposedly, and he didn't inhale -- like that matters), and we still elected him. Clinton and Bush both have both been accused of cocaine use. Bush even once said, "When I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible." He has never denied using cocaine or marijuana, although pressed on the issue many times. Granted, we don't have pictures on a web site.

I'm not saying it's a good idea to post these pictures -- I just don't think it's really going to be a big deal for most employers. I'd also bet that some of these kids involved in these activities might be of the opinion that they wouldn't want to work for a place where it would be an issue. I certainly wouldn't.

Re: The Virtual Identity of College Students

fixed. thanks!

Re: The Virtual Identity of College Students

Hey guys, I note that all the URL's in this post got mangled. I can't get to those terrible pictures of people doing dumb things.
